Key Experiences

From studying Retail to working for M&S!
As soon as my National Insurance card landed in the post just before my 16th birthday I couldn't wait to get a part time job in retail, which I juggled around studying at College and University. I knew that I wanted to work in retail, but I just wasn't sure in which capacity so when I graduated I accepted a promotion with my then employer Zara to become a Deputy Manager.

After a couple of years I decided to move out of retail and explore the world of recruitment which led me to work in various boutique agencies covering a range of disciplines including Finance, IT, Retail and Digital! It was then that I knew I wanted to combine my passion for retail with my experience and understanding of the recruitment industry. When the opportunity arose to work for M&S it was a dream come true!

Current Position

Attracting, engaging and recruiting top talent!
Somebody once said to me that working in recruitment is like having 2500 tabs open on your web browser all at once and they wasn't wrong. It's diverse, challenging and fast paced but it's super rewarding and no day is ever the same!

Whilst I have worked for M&S I have covered Retail Management, Head Office Retail and Logistics recruitment, I have recently moved across to cover Central Services which involves looking after 3 M&S sites across multiple disciplines - Finance, HR and Customer Services.

One minute I can be scoping out requirements, sourcing and attracting top talent and the next minute designing and developing assessment tools, not to mention being exposed to various projects across the business that feed into recruitment.

Main Motivations

Taking candidates on a journey is so rewarding!
Whilst there are lots of aspects of my role that I enjoy there is nothing that gives me more of a buzz than delivering for my stakeholders and providing candidates with an enjoyable, exciting and insightful journey.

The customer is always at the heart of everything we do across M&S as a business and that isn't just the customers who shop in our stores, from colleagues, peers, stakeholders and candidates I pride myself on providing the best service to each and everybody that I encounter!

Top Advice

Learn from experience and always try to enhance your skills!
Listen and learn, there are always opportunities to develop your skill set, adopt new approaches and continually improve no matter what level you are operating at or how good you are at your job.

In a world where technology is evolving so quickly, stay up to date, be in the know and network as much as you can.

Greatest Achievement

Being part of an award winning Recruitment team
Being part of a team that won Best Careers Site 2017 at the Recruitment Advertising Awards is certainly something that I'm really proud of. Aside from that being nominated for HR Star within the first six months of being employed by M&S was also a highlight.
